UGC's new guideline: It is not necessary for students to do PG for PhD, admission will be available only after graduation

The University Grants Commission, UGC has done away with the requirement of Masters to pursue PhD. According to the new guidelines issued by UGC for PhD program, now students pursuing 4-year undergraduate course with 7.5 CGPA will be able to take admission in PhD. UGC had recently issued new regulations regarding PhD degree. in which the above rule was provided.

Anouncement to start 4 year UG course

 According to the National Education Policy 2020, M Phil has been recommended to be abolished. Along with this, it has been announced to start a 4-year undergraduate course. Keeping these provisions in mind, UGC has changed the rules of PhD.

 These rules can be implemented from this session 

These new rules can be implemented from the upcoming session 2022-23. UGC has said about this new provision that its purpose is to promote research. Along with this, it has also been told that students who get 7.5 or more CGPA in UG courses will be able to take admission in PhD. However students who have obtained CGPA less than 7.5 will have to pursue a 1-year master's degree.
